George building collapse | Technical factors of disaster being assessed

GEORGE - The Labour Department is digging through the technical factors of the George building collapse.

Thirty-four workers died in the tragedy.

The Western Cape government says CCTV footage shows that some left the site before emergency workers arrived, and to date have not reported their whereabouts.

The expert probe includes an assessment of the soil quality on which the building was constructed, the quality of the cement used and whether the structure was built according to specifications outlined in the architect’s building plans.
