Gordhan files leave to appeal power exemption ruling
JOHANNESBURG - Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan has filed for leave to appeal a high court ruling that exempted certain key insitutions from power cuts.
This includes all hospitals, clinics, schools, and police stations.
Earlier this month, government was ordered to implement the ruling within 60 days.
The United Democratic Movement and numerous other applicants launched the legal bid.

In court papers, Gordhan says the ruling does not state what steps the Minister must take to comply.
He also states that it's wrongly assumed that he has the power and ability to prevent rolling blackouts.
The Supreme Court of Appeal will now decide whether the minister can directly appeal the high court judgment.
