JOHANNESBURG – NUM is calling for urgent government intervention to save jobs at Petra Diamonds.
It has placed its Finch Mine in Kimberley under business rescue.
Hundreds of workers may lose their jobs.
The mine has also issued retrenchment notices to over a thousand workers in Cullinan.
NUM is demanding strict regulatory oversight and says retrenchments should not be a business strategy.
The union is threatening to use every legal, organisational, and collective bargaining tool at its disposal.
