Government provides rural villages with decent toilets

FANI VILLAGE, Eastern Cape - Pit toilets have proven problematic, not only at schools but also in rural communities.

But the Department of Water and Sanitation says it cannot give all these areas proper sanitation. It is, however, doing its best to restore the dignity of people living in the villages of the Eastern Cape.

Residents say while they appreciate the Department's efforts to construct ventilated and improved toilets structures, much more still needs to be done.

Eastern Cape Premier Oscar Mabuyane admits the government faces a daunting task in trying to mitigate natural disasters.

Mabuyane says there are plans to ensure that rural communities don't feel left behind by the government.
