Government responds to reports on free utilities for ministers
CAPE TOWN - Government has responded to reports about amendments to the Ministerial handbook.
But there's scant detail on the removal of a R5,000 cap on municipal utilities for Ministers.
It maintains Public Works is responsible for providing water and electricity to state-owned residences.
Government says the provisions are part of the package that comes with being a Member of the Executive.
It further clarifies that official residences are not exempt from power cuts.
It says only the seat of government, the Union Buildings and Parliament are protected.
eNCA has reached out to Public Works for a response but has received none so far.
