JOHANNESBURG - SANParks is searching for the driver of a Mercedes-Benz SL500 after he went viral on social media for recklessly driving in the Kruger National Park.
In the viral footage, he can be seen performing wheel spins, drifting and speeding in water in the national park environment.
SANParks spokesperson JP Louw condemned this act, describing it as dangerous, reckless and unlawful conduct within the Kruger National Park.
“Such behaviour demonstrates a blatant disregard for conservation regulations, public safety, environmental protection measures, and the authority of park management,"Louw said.
He said Louw said that as an organisation, they intend to deal with the matter seriously.
“Once identified, the individual will face the full consequences of the law, including the imposition of fines and the withdrawal of access privileges to all protected areas managed by SANParks. We are looking for this individual, and he will face the music”.
The park is also looking into investigating the officials who were on guard at the site.
In a separate video footage, a guard at the gate could be seen encouraging the driver.
“SANParks can also confirm that gate officials seen on the video encouraging and supporting the behaviour will also face consequences for their irresponsible actions which are contrary to parks rules and staff conduct.”
The driver has since issued an apology over the act.
"I fully I understand why what I did created a reaction and I take all of your concerns seriously. From here on out, everything I do at the national parks will reflect the respect it deserves. My goal has always been to help young South Africans like me make money online, it was never to set an example like this and I sincerely apologise," he said on the video.
