Health Dept report confirms babies were stuffed in boxes

On Wednesday, North West Health MEC Madoda Sambatha gave a preliminary report on why the babies were placed in boxes instead of incubators.

MAHIKENG - The North West Health Department is being accused of being inhumane and negligent after pictures of newborn babies stuffed into cardboard boxes went viral on social media.

This sparked concerns about the conditions at the Mahikeng Provincial Hospital.

On Wednesday, North West Health MEC Madoda Sambatha gave a preliminary report on why the babies were placed in boxes instead of incubators.

"I met with management on Friday and they gave me a presentation about what happened. Not all of them were aware as they argued," he said.

"What was found by the investigation of the team from the provincial office is that, yes indeed babies were placed in card boxes, and when we asked the number is four."
