Health practitioners warned about fake inspectors

JOHANNESBURG - The Office of Health Standards Compliance is warning healthcare practitioners and facilities to be on high alert following reports of fraudsters posing as inspectors.

The regulator’s Ricardo Mahlakanya said scammers falsely claim scheduled inspections,
and demand payments to overlook alleged non-compliance issues.

“The fraudulent impersonators, they've been going around, particularly to the healthcare practitioners, fraudulently soliciting money, promising that they will influence the inspection outcomes.

“But the OHSC would like to confirm that these impersonators do not represent the OHSC. And then we urge healthcare facilities and practitioners to be vigilant and report these fraudsters to the OHSC."
