Heavy rain, snow to hit parts of the country

The Eastern Cape is already experiencing a cold spell with persistent rain.

JOHANNESBURG - The South African Weather Service is warning of chilly conditions in parts of the country this week.

Earlier on Tuesday, the R-58 between Elliot and Barkly East was closed due to heavy snowfall.

Warnings have also been issued for KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga.

One person was injured in KZN when they were struck by lightning.

SAWS Mbavhi Maliage said, "we do have a few places that are gonna be affected, some have already been affected since yesterday [Monday] and expected to continue until tomorrow."

"[The] Eastern Cape reported up to 50mm of rain, KZN as well and the enters parts of the Free state, Northern parts of KZN going to MP...reports of snow spreading to Drakensburg and expected to continue into tomorrow."
