Heavy rains leave a trail of destruction in KZN

KZN - Five people have died while serious damage has been caused to infrastructure and roads after a severe thunderstorm caused flooding in KwaZulu-Natal’s South Coast.

The South African Weather Service has issued a level two warning that more severe thunderstorms can be expected.

Areas likely to be affected include the eThekwini metro as well as the Umdoni, Umzumbe and Ray Nkonyeni local municipalities.

The provincial Cooperative Governance Department says its provincial team is assessing the damages.

The public is advised to take precautionary measures by moving to safer places and avoid travelling to mitigate risk.

On Sunday, Margate was flooded washing away cars, uprooting trees and damaging homes and businesses.
