Higher Education minister intends placing Unisa under administration

JOHANNESBURG - Higher Education Minister, Blade Nzimande intends to place the University of South Africa under administration.

He has written to the institution's Council Chairperson, James Maboa on this, following an Independent Assessor’s report.

It revealed financial and other maladministration at UNISA.

Section 49B of the Higher Education Act empowers Nzimande to appoint an administrator.

Unisa's council has been given seven days to make written representations on the matter.
