MBOMBELA - The South African Law Reform Commission has proposed several changes to the Criminal Procedure Act.
The review of the Criminal Procedure Act seeks to address systemic challenges particularly in relation to provisions that deal with arrest, bail, alternative dispute resolution (ADR), and victim participation in the criminal justice process.
This is a sub-project of the overall review of the Criminal Justice System.
The Chairperson of the Advisory Commettee reviewing the Act Judge Francis Legodi said the goal of this review is to ensure that cases are dealt with speed.
This is because delays in cases often lead to discontentment among odinary members of society.
During the release of the papers last week the Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Andries Nel said the criminal justice system must be transformed to be more effective, efficient, integrated, victim-centered and in keeping with the Constitution.
