BLOEMFONTEIN - Police have discovered what appears to be human remains beneath the rubble of a fire-damaged building in Bloemfontein's CBD.
According to Free State police spokesperson Captain Loraine Earle, the discovery came nearly two weeks after a blaze gutted a building in St Andrews Street, also known as China City.

Earle said Parco, a search-and-rescue dog, led police to an area of interest beneath the debris.
"As the search team carefully worked through the rubble, Parco did what he was trained to do. The highly trained search and rescue dog indicated an area of interest beneath the debris. His handler immediately investigated the indication, leading to the discovery of what appeared to be human remains," Earle said.
The remains have not yet been identified.
Earle said forensic tests would be used to establish the victim’s identity as investigations into the fire continue.
