Human Rights Watch condemns 'lack of accountability' for killings in eSwatini

JOHANNESBURG - Human Rights Watch is condemning the lack of accountability for the killings in Eswatini during the June 2021 pro-democracy protest.

The advocacy group says over four years ago, the eSwatini security forces indiscriminately shot and killed scores of students, activists, and passers-by and leaving hundreds more injured.

They released a 26-page report, titled  “You’ll Die Waiting for Justice,” which uncovered improper conduct by the Royal Eswatini Police Service and the Umbutfo Eswatini Defence Force.

They call on the eSwatini government to strengthen policies and procedures to protect peaceful protesters.

Human Rights Watch Africa Researcher, Noma Masiko-Mpaka, discussed this with eNCA.
