CAPE TOWN - Humanitarian organisations have stepped in to lend a helping hand to migrants stranded in Cape Town.
Hundreds remain at the Home Affairs Repatriation Centre in Epping, waiting for buses to take them home.
Mhlonipheni Ncube of the Adventist Development and Relief Agency said they are supporting with transport.
“About 10 buses are coming now, but we are also providing them with food, some knit blankets, sanitary wear for the women and also baby food. As I'm speaking right now, the team is also bringing diapers to assist.
“Then also we've got a team called Reality 7 Foundation. They are also here to give psychosocial support. So this is a partnership between Adra and Reality 7. So what we are doing now, everyone is being taken to Musina where there is an International Organization for Migration (IOM) centre where they are being processed.
“As you can see, the facilities are not conducive when it comes to sanitation, the way that people are exposed. So we want to clear this place, if possible, by tomorrow. So we have 19 buses that have left,” Ncube added.
