'I am going to take the bull by the horn' - Willem Aucamp

PRETORIA - New ministers and deputy ministers have been sworn into the Government of National Unity.

The restructure of the National Executive follows requests from the Democratic Alliance to change its representatives. 

Willem Aucamp, who moved ranks from being a Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment to now being a Minister of Agriculture.

Speaking after being sworn in, Aucamp did not mince his words, saying he is ready to take on the bull quite literally.

His remarks on the back of the Foot and Mouth Disease outbreak in the country, which remains a danger to livestock.

"The Agriculture portfolio is currently facing the challenge of foot and mouth disease. It's something that we will take head on. I will work with every single farmer, with every single agricultural organisation, everybody that wants to take on foot and mouth disease," Aucamp said. 

Willem, assuming the position as Minister of Agriculture, sees Steenhuisen being pushed out and demoted to Deputy Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition.

Aucamp has made it clear that he will not give in to critics who believe that this cabinet reshuffle causes instability for the GNU.

He said he will not let politics play any role in his portfolio, as his main priority is the farmers.

" I'm here to do a job. I'm not going to give my opinion on anything else that people want to form opinions about. I'm going to put my head down. I'm going to take the bull by the horns, literally in this case and get vaccines injected into them and make sure that we safeguard our herd and protect our farmers.
