PRETORIA - Former Hawks boss Godfrey Lebeya insisted he is not corrupt. He took the stand at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.
The retired general also defended his integrity, rejecting suggestions that the inclusion of his name in the proceedings means he is crooked.
He was questioned about drugs that went missing from the Hawks’ offices in Port Shepstone in 2021, during his tenure as the head of Hawks.

The day in question, 6 July 2025, was when KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi blew held an explosive media briefing where he blew the lid on alleged corruption and political interference within the criminal justice system.
"It came at the time when a plethora of possible wrongdoers were being exposed. The inclusion of my name suggested that I am one of the crooked former police officials.
"As proven by all witnesses who came before the commission, no one has hinted that I have received a cent in gratification from anybody," he said.
Lebeya further added that he is “incorruptible” and has served with a clean record for more than 40 years.
"I cannot disappoint the people of South Africans by betraying the trust vested in me. I am incorruptible. I have conducted clean policy for over 40 years. I have not even pointed a weapon in the direction of anybody."
