'I don't think he'll get bail' - expert on Suliman Carrim

JOHANNESBURG - Controversial North West businessman Suliman Carrim’s bail hearing continues on Monday.

He was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport on Thursday for allegedly contravening the Commission's Act after repeatedly failing to appear before the Madlanga Commission.

Security Strategist Andy Mashaile said Carrim's case is complex.

"There's a tall mountain to climb in trying to convince the court, as well as South Africans. You were too sick to testify at the Madlanga Commission, but you are fit to fly.

"These are some of the dynamics in just positioning the two scenarios of him being sick to appear before the Madlanga and him being fit to fly.

"I don't think he will get bail tomorrow, given the dynamics in the ecosystem around him.  Those huge voluminous bags and the one-way flight ticket and just positioning it with whether it will aid his integrity and honesty.

"If he had engaged with them, he would not have been at the airport. And if he had bought a return ticket before his arrest, it would have added value or it will add value in the magistrate considering that."
