PRETORIA - Takalani Raulinga has provided an update on the progress and direction in setting up the office of the IDAC Judge.
The retired judge said the office will operate independently and will be guided by facts and the law while ensuring complaints are handled fairly and without outside influence.
“The office will operate with strict judicial detachment. We do not participate in public debate, nor are we influenced by external pressure or popular opinion. Our mandate is executed through the careful and objective assessment of facts and law.
“Every complaint will be considered fairly with due regard to the rights of both the complainant and the person who is the subject matter of the complaint. Justice is applied without regard to status, influence, affiliation, and this office will uphold that principle.”
Raulinga is the oversight judge and he told the media that the office reports to Justice Minister Mmamoloko Kubayi.
“This office does not exist to impede law enforcement. Its purpose is to strengthen institutional integrity by ensuring that power is exercised within the bounds of legality, accountability and fairness. By providing independent judicial scrutiny, the office contributes to public confidence in the justice system,” he said.
