IEC reminds voters of do’s and don'ts

MIDRAND - With local elections taking place on Wednesday and the final day of special voting on Tuesday, the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has once again reminded voters to follow the rules at the voting station.

This, according to the Commission, is to protect the secrecy of one's vote, but the integrity of the electoral process as well.

The IEC lists the do's and don'ts :

The Do’s

  • Mark your ballot paper in private inside your designated voting compartments
  • Follow instructions of election officials throughout the process
  • Respect other voters
  • Maintain order at the voting station
  • Co-operate with election officials and observe rules of special voting

The Don’ts

  • Do not take photographs of your marked ballot paper
  • Do not disrupt the voting process
  • Do not campaign or canvass for voters inside the voting station
  • Intimidation or attempting to influence voters inside the voting station is not permitted
  • Public and political supporters must not interfere with electoral staff conducting home visits
