IEC reports strong day one turnout

JOHANNESBURG - The IEC has provided an update on the first day of the voter registration weekend.

The two-day drive allows eligible voters to register, check their details and update their information ahead of the Local Government Elections in November.

IEC’s Masego Sheburi said all voting stations were opened at 8am, without any issues.

“By midday, over 330000 voter registration applications had been processed. While 30000 applications were done on the online platform,” Sheburi said.

The Commission will release the outcome of voter registration on Tuesday and announce whether to extend or not.

The IEC has also urged South Africans to vote despite voter apathy.
