JOHANNESBURG - The IEC has announced that the second and final day of the voter registration weekend got off to an even stronger start than the first.
Over 23,000 voting stations were opened across the country this weekend.
Despite poor weather in some areas, registration activities continued at most stations.
The IEC is expected to provide a full breakdown of the registration weekend at a media briefing tomorrow afternoon.
IEC Chairperson Mosotho Moepya confirmed that day two of the registration weekend got off to an even better start than Saturday.
“The majority of registrations, over 90%, are being conducted in person at registration stations across the country. Online registration remains available beyond the weekend as an additional modality of registration.
“Despite the inclement weather conditions, in-person registrations are ongoing at most stations across the country. Initial indications are that KwaZulu-Natal and the Eastern Cape are leading in total registration activity, followed by Gauteng and Limpopo.
“The Commission urges all eligible South Africans who have not yet registered, as well as those needing to update their details, to take advantage of the remaining hours of the second and final day of voter registration weekend.”
Voting stations across the country will remain open until 5pm to assist voters in registering and verifying their registration information.
The Commission will announce the outcome of the voter registration weekend
at a media briefing on Monday, 22nd June, at 2pm at Election House.
