Illegal mining | Cele to visit Riverlea

JOHANNESBURG - Police Minister Bheki Cele will visit Riverlea in Johannesburg on Friday.

It follows protests over a lack of police action against illegal miners.

Residents want zama zamas out of the area after armed clashes between rival groups.

Meanwhile, provincial commissioner Elias Mawela is calling on mining houses to take responsibility for abandoned shafts.

Special Task Force members and police officials are keeping an eye on the situation in Riverlea.

This after shootings took place in the area between rival zama zama groups.

Police say they expect to find more active illegal miners.
