JOHANNESBURG - Acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia is outraged by the extent of corruption exposed at the Madlanga Commission involving IDAC.
The revelations that the NPA unit was used to target innocent people have been deeply disheartening for Cachalia.
On Friday, the NPA unconditionally withdrew charges against Crime Intelligence head Dumisani Khumalo, Dineo Mokwele and several others.
“So, some charges have been withdrawn against General Khumalo, for instance. That was the outcome of a review process initiated by the head of the NDPP, Andy Mothibi. I'm waiting for that process to be concluded before it is clear what other steps need to be taken.
“But I have to say, what I see being under scrutiny before the Madlanga Commission at IDAC, you know, I just feel complete outrage.
“People in positions of leadership have behaved with a shocking combination of incompetence, at the very least. But clearly there are suggestions that there were ulterior purposes. The damage that they have done to the fight against corruption is enormous. I'm absolutely livid."
