Impeachment Committee | ALPA slams U-turn on evidence leader

CAPE TOWN - The African Legal Professionals Association (ALPA) has challenged Parliament’s Section 89 Impeachment Committee's decision to rescind the nomination of Advocate Thandazani Madonsela as chief evidence leader for the Phala Phala impeachment inquiry into Cyril Ramaphosa.

ALPA argues that the committee’s reasons for reversing an earlier decision were not based on new and material facts, making the decision irrational.

Gana said its legal team is ready to respond to the Economic Freedom Fighters and ALPA’s arguments in court.

“Having listened to both the EFF and ALPA, I say that as a committee, we've got a strong case and that every decision that we've taken was within the practice and the rules of the National Assembly.  I'm very much confident that the legal team that will present,” he added.

The High Court in Cape Town has heard heads of argument from the EFF and the ALFP in the legal challenge linked to Parliament’s Section 89 Impeachment Committee.
