JOHANNESBURG - Mandela Day is a celebration of ubuntu and a call to give back.
Observed every year on 18 July, South Africans and communities worldwide are encouraged to spend 67 minutes helping others, symbolising Mandela's 67 years of public service.
The United Nations officially declared International Mandela Day in 2009, recognising Madiba's lifelong commitment to peace, justice and human rights.
Inspired by his words, "It is in your hands now," the day encourages everyone to play their part in building a more just and compassionate society.
More than a commemoration, Mandela Day is a global call to action to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
So, get out there, lend a helping hand, and dedicate your 67 minutes to making a difference.
