According to the Mpumalanga Department of Education spokesperson Jasper Zwane preliminary reports reveal that the pupil was stabbed while they were returning home from school.
“Teachers were alerted about the incident by other learners and immediately rushed to the scene. Upon arrival, they contacted emergency medical services, who sadly declared the learner deceased on site,” he said.
The suspect who is also a Grade 8 pupil was subsequently apprehended by the Police.
Community member Simon Mahlangu says this is not the first time such an incident has happened and urgent response to the matter is needed.
Meanwhile Mpumalanga Education MEC Lindi Masina visited the school.
