Jagersfontein Dam burst | Kopanong Municipality wants compensation for damage

KOPANONG - The Kopanong Local Municipality in the Free State wants the Jagersfontein diamond mine to be held accountable.

The speaker, Jerry Moitse says the municipality lost millions of rand in infrastructure damage after the dam wall collapse on Sunday.

The municipality has joined residents' lawsuit against the mine.

Moitse said, "and you'd recall in any damage, in any disaster there's potential damage to infrastructure, roads, networks, water and electricity supply, it's absolute devastation."

"The municipality spent millions of rands building these. We are pursuing this matter, and want the mine to compensate the municipality. It runs into millions."
