Free State Education Spokesperson, Howard Ndaba, says schools haven't been physically affected.

JAGERSFONTEIN - The mine dam wall collapse in Jagersfontein has wreaked havoc on resident's lives.

Free State Education spokesperson, Howard Ndaba, says schools haven't been physically affected.

But some pupils in the area are struggling to access them.

Affected residents have been given alternative accommodation.

Ndaba said, "the truth of the matter is even though schools haven't been physically affected some have been affected by accessing schools we have over 100 who have been taken to alternative accommodations."

"We have accommodated Grade 12 learners in two hostels they are writing prelims they were able to write."

"Of course schooling won't be the way we want it to be they have fears and so forth... we have deployed social workers since Monday having sessions with learners... [it's a] critical time with exams for all our grades."
