Jayden-Lee Meek's grandmother insists mom is not the killer

JOHANNESBURG - "My daughter is innocent".

These are the words of Jayden-Lee Meek's grandmother, Debbie Dunn, who says her daughter Tiffany Meek did not kill the boy.

Dunn released a statement complaining that they were unable to attend Meek's court appearance this week.

The 31-year-old faces charges of murder.

Her mother says the family has lost faith in the justice system.

"It is so clear that the police, prosecutors and activists were working together to ensure that Tiffany was not represented and that her friends and family were not in court to support her

"We hope she’ll be given a fair bail hearing and trial as we have lost faith and hope in the criminal system," she said.

Jayden-Lee's body was found outside his Fleurhof home in Johannesburg in May, with signs of severe trauma.

He was reported missing after being dropped off after school at the complex where he lived.

He never made it home.

His body was later discovered lying on the steps of the complex, bruised and with some of his clothes missing.

It has come to light that the eleven-year-old boy informed his school and peers that he was allegedly abused.

The Gauteng Education Department says there is an element of truth to the claims.

Evidence suggests Jayden-Lee died inside his home, and the killer tried to cover up the crime scene.

As investigations continue, questions remain over whether quicker intervention could have saved his life.
