JMPD launches new fleet with technology to fight crime

JOHANNESBURG - Crime on Joburg roads just met its digital match.

In a boost for Johannesburg policing, Metro Police have new patrol cars equipped with cutting-edge Automatic Number Plate Recognition, and electronic handheld devices.

The department says over 1000 vehicles equipped with this latest technology will be on the road patrolling.

Officers consider the number-plate recognition system a game-changer.
