Joburg EMS warns of possible secondary collapse
JOHANNESBURG - One fatality has been confirmed following an explosion in the Joburg CBD.
The cause of the explosion and resultant road collapse is still unknown.
Johannesburg EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi is urging residents and motorist to avoid the area due to fears of a possible secondary collapse.
He said, "we are concerned about people who might be tempted to come to the area."
"We might have a situation where we might have a secondary collapse hence we are urging residents to stay away from this area and motorists to avoid this area."
"We still need to assess the buildings and see if there is a need to evacuate any residents."
"We have to toy around in between safety and the economic activity that still needs to happen in that area. That street (Lillian Nyogi street) is one of the busiest streets in the inner city."
