Joburg mayor’s future in question
One day into office and the knives are already out for the new City of Johannesburg mayor.
JOHANNESBURG - Mere days into the position, Johannesburg mayor Kabelo Gwamanda is being accused of fraud.
The DA in the city wants him to come clean and answer questions about the disappearance of money from investors.
One of the victims was allegedly scammed out of her fortune by Gwamanda's company, iThemba Lama Afrika.
Gwamanda and his partner allegedly tricked people into investing in a funeral scheme.
But investors were left in the lurch when they tried to claim.
The DA says it'll be pressing charges against the mayor.
Despite these allegations, Al Jamah-Ah says Gwamanda was thoroughly vetted before being sworn in.
They've denied the accusations levelled against him.
The victims are expected to meet on Wednesday to discuss a way forward using the legal system.
