Joburg under siege from criminals, says mayoral spokesperson

JOHANNESBURG - City Power technicians are hard at work trying to map out the damage caused by burning electric cables that caught alight in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

The city is not committing to when electricity will be fully restored to the affected areas.

But Joburg City Mayoral spokesperson Mlindandlela Ndamase says the city is under siege from criminals.

"I think one of the things we must state is that we're seeing an attack on the infrastructure of the state," he said.

"This is an attack on cable theft, it is an attack on our traffic signals, water infrastructure.

"These criminal elements are deliberately out to sabotage the functioning of the state, and Johannesburg is unfortunately a victim. to those particular actions."
