Joburg water crisis | Week of protests, pain and promises

JOHANNESBURG - It's been a week of water protests, promises, and pain in Coronationville and Westbury.

Some calm has returned, but beneath the quiet, anger and distrust remain.

After enduring years of unreliable supply, residents fear the latest promise is yet another pipe dream.  

Burning tyres and barricaded roads became symbols of the cry for water.

Johannesburg Water insists new infrastructure will bring relief, but the reality is that some of the projects will be completed late next year. 

Residents say this is no longer about politics or promises - it’s about a basic human right: to turn on a tap and have water.
