JOHANNESBURG - The High Court has ordered Johannesburg Water to restore water immediately to the Children’s Memorial Institute in Braamfontein.
The utility cut off supply less than 24 hours after issuing a warning over alleged non-compliance with by-laws.
The Institute is a vital hub for child welfare. It's home to more than 20 NGOs that provide essential services to the most vulnerable and special-needs children.
The abrupt water cut sparked outrage, with the NGOs warning of serious risks to child health and safety.
They are hailing the court order as a victory for children’s rights and human dignity.
