Justice minister moves to enforce visibility amid growing anti-immigrant protests

PRETORIA - Deputy Minister of Police Polly Boshielo and Deputy Minister of Home Affairs Njabulo Nzuza to lead a team of deputy ministers in ensuring compliance with laws amid growing anti-immigrant protests.

This was revealed by Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development Mmamoloko Kubayi following a meeting between anti-immigrant groups and Justice, Cluster Ministers at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.

According to Kubayi, the team of ministers will ensure visibility on the ground and will be supported by law enforcement agencies.

She said the JCPS cluster is expected to meet on 11 June, where deputy ministers will present their first report detailing areas visited, findings made and interventions undertaken. 

That has been the call, that the citizens want to see practical action from government," she said.  

She further stressed that all interventions must be carried out within the confines of the law and warned against vigilante actions by members of the public.

At the same time, she said there has to be coordination between different departments

We do believe that today has been a fruitful engagement. Some of them have called for a follow-up meeting,” she added.
