Kidnapped baby | Bail arguments continue for accused

CAPE TOWN - A 37-year-old Tafelsig woman who allegedly kidnapped a week-old baby last month made her third court appearance on Thursday.

Sameemah Jacobs was arrested on 30 June with the baby in her care.

During her bail application in the Bellville magistrate's court, the investigating officer told the court that should Jacobs be released on bail, the very community that assisted the police to find the baby would lose trust in the criminal justice system.

Sergeant Dawid Fortuin referred to the lengths Jacobs went through to get the baby, adding that there is no guarantee she won't do it again.

Her bail application is expected to conclude on 23 July.
