KNYSNA - The Akkerkloof Dam may reach critical levels within days.
Knysna’s water supply has dropped to critical levels, with officials warning there may be less than two weeks of usable water left.
Knysna Mayor Thando Matika says high seasonal demand and panic storing aren't helping.
Matika said the Akkerkloof Dam is at 50% capacity, or 10 days of water in storage, and added there are other sources for water in the area.
"We need to inform our residents and we need to be honest with them in terms of our storage and water capacity but we're trying by all means to make sure we do not reach that stage," he said.
The mayor went on to say that the situation could have been avoided.
