KZN flood victims get early Christmas gifts

DURBAN - People who lost their homes during KwaZulu-Natal's deadly floods in April will be housed in temporary structures.

KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube handed over the houses just in time for Christmas.

The province has been fighting an uphill battle since floodwaters washed away many people's houses in April leaving thousands homeless.

Most people were housed in community halls and other mass care centres.

Provincial authorities have confirmed that all these care centres are now shut.

The next chapter is leaving the temporary structures and moving to permanent homes.

Provincial authorities say they're hoping to start construction by June.
