GAUTENG - Gauteng Premier, Panyaza Lesufi, says he is ashamed of the looting that happened at Tembisa Hospital.
Over R2 billion was siphoned through dodgy contracts at the health facility by people with alleged links to high profile politicians.
They include businessman, Hangwani Maumela, and alleged drug cartel member and murder accused, Vusimuzi “Cat” Matlala.
Lesufi says they have reached a cooperation agreement with the SIU, which has now broadened its investigation into other Gauteng hospitals.
He says a forensic investigation is underway against the suspended head of the provincial health department.
Speaking to eNCA, Lesufi revealed that the SIU is delving into the HOD’s character amid suspicions that he has withheld some information from investigators.
The Premier alleges that Lesiba Malotana has sent his lawyers to his office, demanding that he be reinstated.
