CAPE TOWN - While members of the LGBTQIA+ community are celebrating their freedom, some political parties and religious organisations are attacking them.

Some are even calling for the community to be banned.

The Truth and Solidarity Movement Party wants the rainbow pedestrian crossing in green point repainted black.

The movement’s Turkish-born leader, Mehmet Vefa Dag, says they will not have gay people’s rights imposed on them.

Community members have slammed the anti-gay stance, saying they will protect the rainbow crossing and the rights they fought for.
