JOHANNESBURG - It’s been over a year and half since a gas explosion tore up Lilian Ngoyi Street in the Johannesburg CBD, and only 15-percent of reconstruction work has been done.

The R189-million project has been marred by delays due to a court battle between the City of Johannesburg and the first contractor appointed for the project.
A second contractor has since been appointed, while road users, businesses and residents continue to be affected by the road’s closure.
