Madlanga Commission to continue on Thursday despite Carrim's ill health

JOHANNESBURG - The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry is expected to continue its work unabated.

This is despite reports that controversial North West businessman Suliman Carrim may miss his scheduled appearance on Thursday.

It comes as he has been reportedly admitted to a medical facility.

According to the Commission's spokesperson, Jeremy Michaels, the Commission has been in contact with Carrim's legal representative on this matter.

He said the Commission will address the latest developments on Thursday.

"The last time Carrim was meant to appear before the commission, he could not due to ill health, and it seems that his conditions persist."

Michaels stressed that there is already another witness lined up to testify and that the Commission's work would continue as scheduled.

He notes the limited time the Commission has to wrap up the hearing.

"We are on a serious deadline. The Commission's final report is due with the President on 31 August. We have a full and tight schedule. We still have quite a number of witnesses to get through before we wrap up the hearings, so that we can start writing the report, the final report. But the Commission's work continues."
