Mahlobo: water access increased to 91.3%

JOHANNESBURG - David Mahlobo said access to water and sanitation has increased to over 90% under ANC rule.

The deputy minister maintained that more still needs to be done to improve access for many communities.

The party is holding a review of their 2021 Local Government Manifesto at Luthuli House in Johannesburg.

“Over the last 32 years, we must know that the ANC have moved right to ensure that access to water, to those that were denied access to water, including the benefits associated to water and sanitation.

“By this year, 2026, our access to water has increased to 91.3%. In other words, we are on track to achieve our SDG imperatives. There is a remaining 87.7% that we need to deal with. Access to sanitation currently stands at 85.6%,” Mahlobo told delegates.
