PRETORIA - Suspended EMPD head Isaac Mapiyeye has been in the hot seat at the Madlanga Commission.
His testimony centres on a report he submitted to the city manager, in which he recommended that acting EMPD head Julius Mkhwanazi be vetted for the role.
Mapiyeye says Mkhwanazi refused, citing the terms of his appointment.
Meanwhile, Mapiyeye says the metro police do not have the power to investigate.
He says that the role is only for the SAPS.
He detailed a series of irregular appointments allegedly made by Mkhwanazi, a deputy chief officer at the EMPD.
