JOHANNESBURG - Johannesburg is celebrating the 36th anniversary of Pride, Africa’s longest-running LGBTQIA+ celebration.
eNCA's Naomi Kobbie spoke to members of the community marching in support of LGBTQI+ rights. Some say they’re walking for those still struggling to come out, while others say pride is about visibility, acceptance, and love.
"I'm here today to walk with those that are still struggling with their faith. I want to say, it's okay to be queer, and it's okay to be questioning. I'm also here in solidarity for those that haven't come out of the closet."
"I'm a mother. I've been documenting hate crimes in different townships. I'm here to say, we need peace. We need peace in our country. I'm fighting the hate."
These are just some of the remarks made by those marching in support of LGBTQI+ rights.
