WASHINGTON - Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado says she handed her Nobel Peace Prize medal to US President Donald Trump.
She says the symbolic gesture is a tribute to Trump's role in Venezuela's fight against tyranny.
It's their first face-to-face since US forces seized Nicolas Maduro and his wife Celia Flores earlier this month.
Machado's White House visit comes a day after Trump used glowing terms to describe his first known call with Venezuela's interim president Delcy Rodriguez, confirming his satisfaction with the allies of Nicolas Maduro remaining in power, for now at least.
Trump praised Machado's visit as an honour but stopped short of endorsing her claim to the presidency.
The Nobel Committee has made it clear that while the medal can exchange hands, the Peace Prize title cannot be transferred.
