Matlala wants a separation of trials

JOHANNESBURG - Alleged criminal kingpin Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala wants a separation of trials.

Matlala's lawyers plan to make a presentation to the Judge President or his Deputy.

His legal team insists this is the only way he can get a speedy trial.

Matlala and four others are facing attempted murder charges for three hits.

After weeks of delays, the pre-trial sitting for Matlala, his wife Tsakane and two alleged hitmen, Musa Kekana and Floyd Mabusela, finally took place.

They will be back in court on 7 May 2026.

Matlala has become a central figure in damning allegations being probed at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry surrounding police infiltration and corruption.

Matlala and his co-accused are facing 25 charges, including 11 counts of attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder and money laundering.

Their trial is expected to begin on 20 July 2026.
