Mchunu defends PKTT disbandment saying SAPS serves everybody

He testified how he sought legal advice before ordering the disbandment, and insists the decision was legal and constitutional.

Mchunu also defended his decision, saying the SAPS has a mandate to serve and protect all South Africans, not just councillors.

"We do not exist as SAPS to just investigate incidents of killings for councillors. We don't, there is no such a mandate. SAPS has to serve everybody. You have got to make sure resources of the country are used to the best of your ability to protect the people of South Africa, not a particular group of people. We have got to tackle this issue, there are no better lives than the others, we are equal.”
